Hi, I’m Sophie Burton.
Being healthy seems easy, you calorie count, take out all the ‘bad’ food and workout like mad and then boom there you go, healthy. Well we know that’s not true, right? Firstly, that’s a mission to self-destruct. If you do start to get healthy you’ll find there are a lot of obstacles out there to trip us up, condition us to pick out certain foods and trick us into fad diet trends, but the good news is that we can break free from this cycle. That’s why I’m here, together we understand what health means to you. We unlock the beautiful reasons for you to make better choices for your body, acknowledge and jump over obstacles and as a result see yourself bloom.
So who am I? It’s still a question I haven’t quite figured out, but here are the basics. I’m 31 years old and living in Switzerland. I live with my fantastic partner Danny and our Chocolate Labrador Ziggy. I enjoy spending time in nature or on my balcony, gazing through cookbooks and heading into the kitchen to whip up a feast. I enjoy workout out not only to improve my fitness but for my mental health!
Watch this video to learn about me, my health journey so far and why I became a health coach
Originally from the UK, I grew up on a farm, an independent girl who was always out exploring the land and playing with animals. Then like most teens in the 2000’s lots of glitter makeup, crashing out on the sofa watching TV after school, snacking on crisps (chips to some) and chocolate. In early adulthood, I explored the fun of alcohol and parties, but I started getting conscious of my body, comparing myself to others and worrying about how others see me. I’d go from eating hardly anything to eating all the naughty stuff and using exercise to try to balance it out.
I thought I lived a relatively healthy life, but when I really looked at myself I saw I was struggling to keep my weight balanced, I suffered from painful bloating, and my skin was dry and cracking one week and then oily the next. The biggest issue was my mental health, it was a constant battle to feel optimistic and I suffered from a total lack of energy, I needed something to change!
I saw so much conflicting information on diets and ‘the one way’ to become healthy, also a lot of unhealthy influencing which only made me feel worse about myself. I didn’t believe in quick fixes, although I wished many times a quick click of my fingers would sort it all out. I did know that working out made me feel better physically and mentally. I had the need to understand nutrition and so I joined IIN (Institution of Integrative Nutrition). There I studied nutrition, but more importantly the skill of coaching through health and how it all starts from within, not just from the food you eat.
The first person I needed to coach was a tough one…myself. Through this journey I’ve learnt so much about myself, I could understand where my cravings and habits stemmed from and how to unpick them. I quickly realised what health feels like to me and why it feels so different to each person. Not only did my physical health improve but my mental health too, so much that I would say I had an awakening, I open my eyes with curiosity and wonder, excited to start each day.
With this new found curiosity and energy I wanted to teach others how to workout based on goals and in a way that makes you feel good, proud and full of life. I then completed my personal training qualification.
My purpose is to share this knowledge with others who find themselves lost in this world of health and wellbeing.
